    Name: The New Republic

Faction Staff: Paragon of the Republic - New Republic, Kalja Tal'Vera - New Jedi Order

    IC Hierarchy:

    Executive Branch

The New Republic is headed by the Chief of State. The Chief of State was elected by fifty percent and one vote majority of the Senators. The Chief of State was also the President of the Senate and Commander-in-Chief of the Fleet, although that title was sometimes used to refer to the highest ranking member of the military.

Tradition varied on the proper form of address for the President. In general, Senators, the Senate bureaucracy, and the Coruscanti media referred to the President, while the General Ministry, member worlds, and the population of the New Republic often referred to the Chief of State, depending on local languages and history.

The Chief of State could be recalled by a majority vote of the Senate on presentation of a petition of no-confidence by a majority of the Ruling, or Inner, Council, or by a quarter of the primary members of the Senate. The election of a President could be blocked by the Ruling Council on a unanimous vote. In practice, the power of the Ruling Council to void an election and initiate the recall of a sitting President meant that any candidate proposed by or approved by the Ruling Council was likely to be elected by the Senate. The Ruling Council consisted of the chairmen of the Senate councils and the President of the Senate. The President could select any member of the Ruling Council to conduct the business of the Senate in her absence from that body.

If the president became incapacitated, incommunicado, or died, the chairman of the Ministry Council selected an acting Chief of State from among the following: any former President, the current Minister of State, any former Minister of State.

    Judicial Branch

The members of the Court of Justice were selected by the Senate Justice Council from a list of nominees presented by the President of the Senate. The First Justice was elected by the other members of the Court from among their number. Nominally independent, the power of the Court of Justice was limited by its narrowly defined jurisdiction: to review charges of violations of the Charter by members or by the other branches of the New Republic's government. The Court of Justice did not serve as the court of last appeal for ordinary civil and criminal cases; those were settled by local judicial authorities on member worlds.

    The General Ministry

The General Ministry was formed through the Common Charter to ensure that the government paid due attention to domestic concerns, not just military or defense ones. Agencies ranging from the New Republic Intelligence Service to the Obroan Institute for Archaeology fell under the General Ministry's jurisdiction.

Like its Old Republic predecessor, the General Ministry oversaw a wide variety of concerns; including, but not limited too, the ministries of government, finance, commerce, security and intelligence, and science and education. The latter segment placed a number independent institutes and universities, termed the General Ministry Institutes, under its oversight.

The First Administrator, appointed by the Ministry Council with the approval of the President of the Senate, led the New Republic General Ministry, reporting to the Minister of State.

The New Jedi Order does not directly report to any Council within the New Republic. They maintain their own structure and handle internal occurrences. They stand ready to support and defend the New Republic against any enemy, as well as assist in peaceful settlements, mediation, and the like within the territories of the Republic. The New Jedi Order is ran by the Jedi Council, with the Grandmaster as its lead and the Master of the Order the second in command.

Requested Hexes: Chandrilla (Capital) 14-21, Vakkar 14-22, Bilbringi 13,19
    Interested Members:

There are a few other members, but I am unsure if they're staying put or they're just in as liaisons of sorts.

Description: The New Republic is the successor to the Galactic Federation. A democratic Republic with planetary representation with a Defense Force and the New Jedi Order to support it.

The New Republic is facing an internal threat, after the loss of the Chief of State due to assassination by a member of the New Jedi Order. The Jedi are now untrusted in the eyes of the New Republic, but maintain their oath in defending the Republic and being a force for good.

The New Jedi Order is struggling to grow with the events of the Pietas Station, and the loss of so many Knights and Masters. The Grandmaster, Kalja Tal'Vera continues her quest to rebuild the Jedi Order to its former glory.

T;L DR - I am trying to make the New Republic EU cool and rebuild the Jedi Order.

This looks decently fleshed out, the only thing I'd ask is that you speak a bit more towards the current state of your New Republic. By that, I mean, in relation to the board history. While I don't have any biases against a Republic style faction I do want to reiterate that a unified Republic was just attempted and shattered via Pietas Incident.

That in mind, how does the New Republic/how did the New Republic come into being? How was the transfer of power completed? Are there fractures of power or disarray among member worlds? Why or what virtues facilitated Coruscant, Empress Teta, and Kuat remaining united when all the other worlds broke away and independent after the Pietas Incident?

If you could expound on how the board's recent established history effects and has effected The New Republic, and how The New Republic managed to cling on to those worlds and why people (IC) are still drawn to a Republican form of government despite the recent failure - I would feel much better about stamping an approval on this.

I apologize for the delay and appreciate your patience with this application!

We would say that there is always some need for a democratic Republic. Even where there is no democracy, there is always a desire to have freedom and representation that fits with your values. Take a look at real world events, Cuba for example - the desire is real and tangible. So, one would assume that these Core worlds are used to it - they're comfortable with the Republic, they would prefer it over the rule of the Galactic Empire or the like.

We would be in the wrong to say there are not fractures within the influence of the Republic. There are skeptics, there are people who desire the power for themselves, there are anti-government movements as well. The Republic will have to win them through diplomacy. Military Force would be only used in select situations. The primary purpose of the New Republic Defense Force is exactly what it's name says. Each Planet and Sector will have a proper Defense Force and of course, the Home Fleet will be at Chandrila - even when Coruscant is re-taken. We are working on composing more information on Fleet sizes, breakdowns, etc. We are awaiting more rules and guidance from Foundry/Codex before laying out the complete Defense Forces actual structure. It would be safe to say that some Planetary Reps would be abusing Republic resources. Another avenue of approach for more stories.

I would also like to note, we moved from the Core and will expand to it. Instead, we're staring in Chandrila up to Bilibringi with the intent to retake the Core and enforce the ideology of the Republic that is already embedded within the societies of the Core. Eventually branching out to old installments and bases. We recently learned that Kuat will remain Independent and we respect that decision. We will, however, still continue to pursue weapons manufacturing facilities and contracts with the Kuati government.

The current narrative for the Republic is Shattered Divide. With the Pietas Station incident fresh in the minds of those who remain loyal, the New Republic sustains another blow. Death of the Chief of State! The Jedi are suspected of the crime, with allegations that the Grandmaster of the Jedi Order was involved with her Padawan in an attempt to overthrow the Republic and blame the Fel Imperium. This newly discovered shatter further threatens the fragile free Alliance that remains in the Galaxy.

There will be similar narratives or driving points to further the Faction along.

We would prefer to expand with minimal conflict. We would like to see stories be the driving force behind expansion, to include PVP combat, etc. More than the map game. So, we will opt for a more standard diplomatic approach, then aggressive expansion.

There will be individualized narratives, some will be coordinated with other Major Factions to provide more lush, immersive environments for your writing pleasure.

We are not trying to reinvent the wheel with the New Republic. There will be similarities to EU NR and ours, the same for the NJO and ours.

    Hopefully this helps!

    Thank you for the consideration.
